Flora

The country has a varied and abundant plant life because of the tropical climatic conditions. Its villages are virtually buried in groves of mango, jackfruit, banana, bamboo, coconut palm, betel palm, date palm and many other useful trees. Herbs and shrubs are common everywhere. Most of the hilly regions are covered with deep forests. The biggest forest is the Sundarbans, spreading along the southwestern seaboard. Sundarbans mangrove vegetation comprises mainly Sundari (Heritiera tomes or minor). Gewa (Excoecaria agallocha) and Goran (Ceriops roxburghiana) trees. Among the common flowers are the Marigolds, Bengal roses. Water lilies. Gandharaj (a tuberose), Bokul (Mimusops elengi) and Kamini (Orange Jasmine).
